Business clothes mean wearing something professional for formal occasions – such as work or in a formal meeting. However, more and more companies are now bending this strict rule by allowing the employees to wear something casual in some of the days in the week. But how casual can someone get when it comes to business clothing? Not too casual like wearing these items. These are the don’ts:
• Wearing of flip-flops: These forms of recreational footwear are almost not acceptable in all offices because it is inconsiderate to other employees.
• Bathing suits: Self explanatory
• Wearing of sunglasses: There’s no sunlight inside the workplace, not counting the rays coming in the windows. This can be disrespectful especially when interacting with officemates because they could not tell if you are paying attention or not.
• Last and not the least: Don’t wear shorts in the office. This can be construed as unprofessional.
What defines casual business attires? Better yet, what should not be considered as casual business attires. In a formal atmosphere such as the work place, one should always be conscious of what he or she wears because this could be a make or break deal on your company’s future.
Here are items you should not wear because these are overly casual:
* Tank tops: This is showing too much skin for women and they are worn best on beaches but not in the office.
* Bright, beach-inspired shirts: Shirts with vulgar messages or suggestive connotations should not be worn at work. This may be construed as something that you’d probably say out loud and your co-workers might find it not very amusing.
* Transparent clothing: Though self-explanatory, underwear should not be something to show off to colleagues at work. If you prefer light fabric to beat the heat, wear something that still covers what you wear underneath.
Businesses have started to eased down their dress policies in a bid to increase morale. This has worked wonders for the employees especially since they can now wear business casual attire on a Friday. However, the popular Casual Friday should not be taken as the day to wear anything you like. There are still conditions too.
First, wearing of short shorts and flip flops is a big no no at the office. This is too casual for an office atmosphere. Plus, it does cause discomfort to the colleagues since you may be showing too much skin.
To get the idea as to what is the perfect business casual attire on a Friday, go to the Human Resources department and get tips as to what casual clothing is appropriate in the office. Dress policies do vary in every company and it is still important to follow office rules and regulations.
In a job interview, first impressions do matter. It pays to dress appropriately in such occasions in order to at least expect favorable results once the interview is over.
The Society of Young Leaders in Aloha United Way is aiding women in low income bracket to make positive impressions during job interviews by providing them with business attire. These women can then present themselves to the interviewer wearing a great-looking business attire.
The group recently received more than $10,000 worth of gently-used women’s business attire which will benefit YWCA of Oahu’s Dress for Success Program. The donation program lasted for a month and the support from the public has been tremendous.
Society of Young Leaders Chairman Max Clini said that they are grateful with the support they’ve gotten from several organizations. He added that with these additional clothes, they can help more women achieve their goals.
In one of his photographs, Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama was seen wearing an interesting business attire which involves a quirky-looking shirt and flamboyant pants. This ensemble has inspired several business-minded individuals to come up with copies and sell it to as much as $500.
Hatoyama is said to be known for wearing interesting clothing and has gained media attention for the clothes he wear in several important occasions.
Dubbed as the “Hatoyama Shirt,” the public has accepted the look and has gone to retail stores to get their own. In the past, Hatoyama was seen wearing a shirt adorned with hearts, Hawaiian-inspired shirts and even colorful tops.
One of the top producers of the “Hatoyama Shirt” said that the Prime Minister has inspired the public to wear something that’s truly them – a free spirited individual and that reflects on their leader as well.
Two charitable groups have joined forces to collect professional clothing for those who are in need.
The Bottomless Closet and Student Employment Services (JOBshop) have combined their resources together to accept donations of professional clothing for both men and women.
The Bottomless Closet provides aspiring employees their needed outfit in time for a job interview or those who have just started their jobs but have no means to dress up properly for such. This means that aside from the professional clothing, the organization also helps in building career skills and image enhancement.
JOBshop’s Joanne Johnson-Clauser said that clients are referred to their organization and that they assist them in any way they can. The good thing is that their services are free.
Johnson-Clauser said that they have received donations in large numbers which can only mean that their efforts have been a great success and they look forward to similar activities in the future.
Nike Incorporated Chief Executive Officer Mark Parker said that the retail clothing giant plans to increase its revenues for the next five years by forty percent by focusing on international markets via its numerous array of brands.
Parker said that they’re not only focusing on sporting goods but other ventures as well such as business clothing and other brands. He believes that their projects are “quantifiable.” These revelations were made during the investor conference in New York late last week.
The company plans to increase its sales revenues by $27 billion five years from now. In its recent fiscal year figures, the company posted revenue of $19.3 billion.
The bulk of its revenues came from its namesake brand. However, Parker said that they are getting increased figures from its other businesses such as Umbro, Hurley and Converse. He said that Converse is expected to double its size for the next two years.
